Tokyo 2020: Bombers Captain Progresses

Tetteh (L) with a left hook to his opponent

Black Bombers captain, Sulemanu Tetteh, yesterday progressed to the last 16 of the men’s boxing Flyweight Division at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Tetteh’s tenacity from start to finish overpowered Marte De La Rosa of the Dominican Republic with a split decision (3-2) to the next stage.

He began on a quiet note but he rallied in the final round, and pressured his opponent incessantly till the end.

“I told my family and friends, am not coming back empty handed and that stimulated me to go all out to get the first victory for Ghana,” he said.

The national boxing side’s captain next faces Cuban Yosvany Veitía this Saturday in the ongoing sports festival in Tokyo.

Other boxers at the games – Shakul Samed and Samuel Takyi are expected to fight tomorrow against Jean Carlos Pachito Caicedo of Ecuador, and Malkan Bayram of Turkey respectively after they both drew a bye in the preliminary round.
