THE KORLE-Bu Teaching Hospital yesterday launched a transport service for its staff.

Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, said this was very significant considering their staff population.

He said having just under 1000 functional housing units for a staff population of over 7500 means that the vast majority of our staff have to commute over various distances to and from work, which is stressful.

“Concerns of transport was a challenge to our staff, so management took it into consideration”, he said.

Dr. Ampomah expressed the hope that the staff transport service will usher them into a new chapter and accord them relief.

“I trust that these will also result in increased punctuality and productivity, apart from the social benefits,” he added.

The Deputy Head of Vanguard Assurance, Eric Nana Kyei, said they partnered with Mobile Edge Company to provide Korle- Bu with a staff transport service that would offer staffs safe, cost effective and convenient means of commuting between home and work.

He further said that Vanguard is bringing on board vast experience in offering financial security protection from similar partnership.

“Vanguard Assurance is offering free GHC10,000 cedis personal accident cover for every Korle-Bu staff that boards the bus,” he stated.

He, however, said they are committed to keeping this service running to achieve the set goals.

Managing Director of Mobile Edge Co. Ltd, Asamoa Ansu Kwadwo, said his outfit will open up a software environment to all staff of Korle-Bu to sign up and use the unique capabilities of the mobile app, and buses for their daily transport needs.

“Our mobile application is a closed environment and as such will not be available to the general public”, he stated.

He further said they were mapping out the entire city with virtual stops and pickup points based on the distribution of the hospital’s 7500 employees.
