The deceased students
Three students of Adeiso Presbyterian Senior High School in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region have met their untimely deaths at Adeiso.
They were crushed to death by a carless commercial vehicle popularly called ‘Trotro’ on Sunday at about 5:30pm.
Sixteen persons who also sustained serious injury were sent to the Nsawam Government Hospital and the Adeiso Health Centre for treatment.
The three students, two final years and a first year, have been identified by the police as Gideon Shia, 19, with two Pillion riders namely Richmond Kwakye, 19, and Richard Amuzu, 18.
They were on a motorbike with registration number, M-20 – GR 6731 when they were run over by the speeding trotro which was trying to make an overtaking.
The trotro driver and the occupants in the bus got injured and were rushed to the hospital.
According to the Adeiso District Police Commander, ASP Baffour Awuah, at about 5:30pm, the suspected driver, yet to be identified, was driving a Hyundai H100 mini bus with registration number GC 1516–19 with passengers on board from Akim Oda towards Accra.
“On reaching Tommy, a suburb of Adeiso, on Adeiso – Asamankese road, he crashed head on with Haujue motor bike with registration number M– 20– GR 6731 ridden by Shia, with two pillion riders namely Kwakye and Amuzu, all students of Presbyterian Senior High School, Adeiso.
He said the three students on the motor cycle died on the spot.
He said that the injured persons were sent to the Adeiso Government Health Centre and Nsawam Government Hospital respectively.
“So far we have been able to save eight persons who were onboard the Hyundai vehicle. Some of them were rushed to Adeiso Health Centre where they have been treated and discharged, and four of them were also sent to Nsawam Government Hospital.”
ASP Awuah added that “we will do our investigations to be able to identify the persons who are dead and also their families and also try to unravel the cause of the accident and see who is to be blamed.”
Meanwhile, the deceased families and the police were expected to meet yesterday.
NDC MP
Before the deadly incident, another accident involving the immediate past MP for the area, Derrick Ohene Asifo Bekoe, also occurred on Sunday.
He was involved in an accident at Sukrong Bethlehem stretch of the Asamankese-Nsawam highway.
Two Nissan 4×4 cars with registration number GT-2624-E and GR-6545-P as gathered, were heading towards Nsawam, while the former MP was coming towards Asamankese from the opposite direction.
The MP was driving a Toyota Fortuna vehicle with registration number GR -8334 – 18 which had three members of the opposition NDC on board and upon reaching Sukurong Bethlehem was involved in a crash with the two oncoming Nissan vehicles.
The former MP and the three persons in his vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to Asamankese Government Hospital.
