Charles Wordey handing over the cheque to Patience Addo’s family
National Investment Bank (NIB) has donated an amount of GH¢30,000 to cover the cost of surgery, physiotherapy and medical expenses at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) for a junior high school graduate, Patience Addo.
The 16-year-old, who was diagnosed of tumour in the spine and needed urgent corrective surgery to restore her health, caught NIB’s attention through Global Outreach Consortium, a non-governmental organisation focused on the delivery of advanced medical care to the underprivileged through collaboration.
The bank was touched to make a difference in her life as part of its corporate social initiatives.
The Head of Corporate Affairs, Charles Wordey, who presented the cheque on behalf of the bank, reiterated NIB’s resolve to continue providing support to the underprivileged and needy in the society, as this is one of the cardinal values of the bank.
He, therefore, entreated the customers of the bank to keep faith with NIB to enable it to reach out a lot more to the needy.
Patience got paralysed in 2016 a few weeks after she was diagnosed of the tumour.
This incapacitated and deprived her of the opportunity to sit her Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) at the Association Basic School.
She, however, managed to sit the exam in 2018 following interventions by some benevolent organisations supporting with relief and maintenance medications.
Her condition deteriorated and needed urgent surgery to correct it.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of her daughter, Madam Rose Biney expressed delight at the gesture, adding that “hope was practically lost when almost everybody in the family contacted turned their backs on us. We thought Patience would never get the money for the surgery but thanks to NIB, we now have hope.”
