Veep Shakes Accra

Vice President Bawumia yesterday literally brought parts of the nation’s capital, Accra to a standstill.

This was when he decided to visit some markets as part of his campaign activities.

His first port of call was the famous Tuesday Market at Korle Gonno in the Ablekuma South Constituency.

It was a sight to behold when Dr. Bawumia, who is the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in the December 7 general election and members of his campaign team got to the place.

The traders (market women) were literally falling over themselves with excitement amidst chants of ‘It is Possible’, ‘Number One’, ‘Mr. Digital’, ‘Free SHS’, ‘Agenda 111’, whilst dancing to tunes from a brass band.

An obviously stunned Bawumia could not help but also respond with a wave and a shout of ‘It is Possible’.

He went round the entire market, greeting and shaking hands with the market women.

From the Tuesday Market, Dr. Bawumia went to the 31st December Market at Makola in the Odododiodio Constituency.

This almost brought the Accra Business District (ABD) to a standstill, as many including traders, porters and drivers tried to catch a glimpse of the NPP flagbearer.

Then came the usual chants of ‘It is Possible’ that greets him almost everywhere he goes, which has become synonymous with Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.

It took the intervention of officers and men of the Ghana Police Service and his own security to bring the traffic situation under control, as it almost caused a gridlock.

By this time, the clouds had gathered and threatening to rain. But that was not enough deterrent for a determined Bawumia, as he moved to the Okaishie Market.

As he walked through the stalls and stores exchanging pleasantries with the traders, then came the rains.

Many were those who thought the NPP flagbearer will call off his campaign, but he braved the odds, defied the rains and proceeded to the infamous second-hand clothing market, Kantamanto.

Like some women were thought to have laid down their clothes for Jesus to walk on in the Christian Bible, so did some of the market women.

At a mini rally at Okaishie, Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence about the chances and that of the NPP in winning the upcoming elections.

That, he said, has become evident in his campaign tours across the country.

Everywhere he goes, the NPP flagbearer said Ghanaians give him the indication of the trust and confidence they have developed in the party and its government, since they have managed to deliver most of their 2016 and 2020 campaign promises.

He mentioned the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which the government had fulfilled as a classic example.

The Vice President said the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) viewed the Free SHS policy as “impossibility”, however, the NPP government defied all odds to implement it.

According to him, Ghanaians therefore see the NPP as a more credible party and government than their rivals in the NDC.

He, therefore, noted with confidence “Inshallah, Inshallah, Inshallah, the NPP will win the December 7 Election.”
