The Eastern Regional Youth Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its support for the Electoral Commission (EC) new Voter’s Register compilation exercise.
The Compilation of the new register is expected to take place this month.
According to the NPP Youth Wing, they have followed with rapt attention, ensuing debates and commentaries relative to the legitimate decision of the EC to register every Ghanaian who is above 18 years.
The Regional Youth Organiser of the NPP, Jerry Osei-Poku, in a statement made available to DGN Online, expressed concerns about threats to lives.
He noted that their concerns have been necessitated following the threats from the NDC and Bernard Mornah, the embattled PNC National Chairman, to disrupt the exercise and visit mayhem on Ghanaians should the mass registration exercise be carried out by the EC.
He said the youth in the Eastern Region strongly condemn these unfortunate utterances and wish to state: “That no political party including the NDC can cause any form of disruption to the mass registration exercise in any of the centres in the Region”.
“That the youth in the region shall, in the spirit of the 1992 constitution, resist any attempt by the NDC, its assigns or any organized group to disrupt or truncate or compromise or halt the registration exercise of the EC in any part of the region.”
He explained that every qualified Ghanaian in the Region should be rest assured that their health, security and safety would be guaranteed throughout the entire exercise as enough measures have been put in place to permit incident-free exercise in the region.
Jerry Osei Poku noted that every Ghanaian qualified to be registered per the laws of Ghana is entreated to go to their various registration centre created by the EC in order to have their names captured in the register.
“We highly commend the youth in the Region for their resolve to perform their civic responsibility by availing themselves to register in their numbers and vote for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo come 2020 general elections”.
He added that” We the youth, owe this generation and that yet to come, a sacred duty to keep Ghana on this very progressive and sustained development trajectory by keeping the NPP in power for a very long time”.
“Therefore, the life-changing Free SHS policy, Trainee Allowances, NABCo, One District One Factory, One Million Per Constituency, accelerated Job Creation programmes and the many far-reaching policies of the NPP government shall be protected through the ballot,” he stated.
The Youth Organiser noted that they won’t let their guard down for the “naysayers, pessimists, corrupt and incompetent NDC to creepily rob us of the promising future”.
He, however, assured that the youth in the Region shall cooperate with the EC and all stakeholders in every step of the process to compile the new register and offer the appropriate support required of them.
