A 75-YEAR-OLD woman, Adwoa Fumwaa, who voluntarily released her land for the construction of a school building, has been killed in a bizarre circumstance by a bulldozer that was clearing the land to pave way for the project.
The sad incident occurred at a farmland at Wioso, a small community near Akrokerri in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.
The victim was harvesting her farm produce on the land to pave way for the construction of a school when she was struck by the bulldozer that was working on site at the same time.
Chief of the community, Nana Appiah Nti II, described the matter as ‘horrible accident’ and said the victim was full of life after willingly releasing her land in the interest of the residents of the Wioso community.
The police at Akrokerri have since detained the driver of the bulldozer. And they are investigating whether or not the driver did not see the septuagenarian working on the land.
While some residents are claiming the bulldozer hit the woman, others are saying she was buried alive under a heap of sand by the heavy machine.
A son of the victim, Kwame Bronya, had confirmed the incident saying the tragic incident happened around 5:00 pm on Thursday while they were harvesting some foodstuffs on the land.
Kwame Bronya said upon hearing shouts alerting his mother, he rushed to the scene only to discover that she had been buried under a heap of sand.
“I heard people shouting Aunty! Aunty!, alerting my mother to leave the farm when the bulldozer was approaching but before she could do anything she was struck to death before being buried in the sand.
“We then struggled to get her out of the heap of sand and when we checked her body she had a deep cut on the neck and sustained other degrees of injury on her face and arms,” he recounted.
According to him, his mother’s body was later recovered from heaped sand after the accident, and it was later taken to a morgue by police officers who came to the scene.
