Woman Dies At Mahama NDC Rally

John Dramani Mahama

FORMER PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama’s campaign tour for votes in the Ashanti Region was dealt a heavy blow on Tuesday following the sudden death of one of his staunch supporters identified as Hajiya Memuna.

Hajiya Memuna reportedly collapsed at the Central Mosque, where Mr. Mahama was supposed to address NDC members and canvass for votes.

She was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital by other NDC supporters at the programme, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The sad incident happened few minutes before Mr. Mahama was about to deliver his campaign message for votes to the teeming party members.

The circumstances that led to Hajiya Memuna’s sudden collapse and eventual death is not known.

Some of the NDC members said Hajiya Memuna was happily dancing like other party members to welcome Mr. Mahama when she suddenly collapsed.

Some also said she became excessively happy after spotting Mr. Mahama in their midst and she collapsed due to over excitement.

They said Hajiya Memuna’s unexpected collapse drew the attention of other party members at the venue, who quickly rushed to offer some support.

According to them, Hajiya Memuna’s health started to deteriorate fast so they quickly rushed her to the hospital in an NDC Mahindra vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said the party members that rushed to the hospital were shocked to the marrow when they were told that Hajiya Memuna had passed on.

Hajiya Memuna was said to be a staunch Muslim, who resided at Adukrom, a community in the Asawase Constituency.

Her body was therefore conveyed to her house at Adukrom on Tuesday evening for burial on Wednesday, according to Islamic tradition.

Some NDC members said the former president was able to continue with his campaign in the other constituencies in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday and Wednesday.
