Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa
Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa, Founding President of Youth Icons Ghana, has urged the youth that would be appointed by President-Elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be worthy ambassadors of young people in the country.
He said young people who would be appointed to serve in government must create opportunities for the youth.
Osei-Darkwa’s comments come barely a day after Nana Addo made his first batch of appointments, with the youth featuring prominently.
In an interaction with DAILY GUIDE in Accra, Osei-Darkwa called on the youth to carry out their duties with humility and openness, respect the rules of engagement and avoid corruption.
The Founding President of Youth Icons said, “It is a great honour to have the opportunity to serve your nation in your youthful days, and I think that those who get this opportunity must first deem it a great privilege and honour to be considered and not because they qualify more than other young people.”
According to him, the trappings of power would surely come to play but one must always remember that image is everything and that integrity remains the new currency.
“Always remember that arrogance would only truncate your success and destroy your fortunes, be good listeners.”
Osei-Darkwa, however, admonished the young appointees to work tirelessly as ministers, deputies, heads of state institutions and various boards.
He intimated that “your appointment is a great opportunity to help bring issues bordering on youth development to the fore and push as ambassadors for the justification for more focus to be given to matters bordering on youth development.
Osei-Darkwa continued: “Do not go there with a poverty mentality where you see your appointment as an opportunity to enrich yourself at the detriment of the collective. Understand that you are in public service and should be exactly that. Execute your assignment with dignity, honour and grace and let posterity judge you favourably.”
He called on Ghanaian youth to rally behind young appointees and support them to ensure that they deliver excellently.
