WR Gets More Fire Stations

Two New Fire Service Stations have been commissioned in the Western Region to bring fire rescue services closer to the people. The two fire stations located at Elembele and Ampain Districts, form part of the expansion policy of the Fire Service to ensure that all districts in the country are provided with fire stations in order to improve the emergency response time of the Service during emergencies to ensure effective and efficient operations.

Speaking at the Elembele Commissioning, the Regional Minister Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo thanked the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament Mr. Kofi Buah for their initiative and assistance. He admonished the Fire Officers to take very good care of the office facility and the Fire Engines in order to yield maximum benefit to the people.

On his part, Mr Kofi Buah noted that the provision of the two fire stations was part of government’s effort to provide critical infrastructure for the citizenry and promised more of such projects in the area.

The Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie intimated that, the Western Region has become one of the high risk regions due to the oil and gas activities in the area as well as the establishment of the Atuabo Gas processing plant which has not only attracted various investors to the region, but has also resulted in the increase in commercial and residential structures in the region which in effect has exposed the communities in and around the region to various hazards.

He stressed that, a well equipped fire station does not necessarily prevent fires and therefore, called on the public to ensure that they offer the needed assistance to the Fire Service personnel to ensure their effectiveness.

Dr Gaisie jointly commissioned the stations with Mr Kofi Buah, the Chief executive of Ghana Gas, Dr. George Sipa Yankey, the Regional Minister Paul Evans Aidoo, and the Paramount Chief of East Nzema Traditional Area, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III.
