THE WIFE of the Asantehene, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, has sternly cautioned the public, especially traders, to be circumspect to avoid falling prey to ‘rip-off’ financial institutions that usually promise astronomical interests on the savings of their clients.

She said, regrettably, so many people, especially traders and owners of medium and small-scale businesses, who have the potential to make it big in business, have had their businesses collapsed halfway through because they were enticed with huge profits by these scam financial institutions.

According to her, banking is not magic therefore the public should be extra careful when they are approached by financial institutions that promise mind-blowing profits on the savings of their clients in order to avert being cheated consequently.

Lady Julia made these remarks during the official opening of Asokore Mampong Rural Bank on Tuesday.

The Asokore Mampong Rural Bank, a brainchild of the Asokore Mamponghene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, is intended to support traders in the community to expand their businesses in order to increase their profit and expand their operational areas.

Lady Julia admitted that some banking institutions in the country have encountered problems this year, but she still advocated people to continue saving their monies with genuine banks, saying “robbers can attack and rob you or fire outbreak can destroy your money, so save with banks”.

She also admonished board members and managers of banking institutions in the country to always do their best possible by introducing products that would help their clients, especially traders. This would help them get more profits and increase their businesses in the process.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, the Asokore Mamponghene, said he took inspiration from his overlord, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who is a development-oriented leader.

He charged his fellow chiefs to make the proper development of their various traditional jurisdictions their main priority, stressing that Asokore Mampong is growing at an alarming rate; hence he thought it prudent to open the rural bank to assist businesses in the area.

On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Alidu Seidu, entreated residents of the town, especially traders, to save with the new bank, stressing that the Asokore Mamponghene had done a lot to transform the area, for which reason he deserved to be praised.
