The mangled cars after the crash
FOUR PEOPLE, including three males and one female, have been confirmed dead in a gory road accident, which occurred at Mfensi near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The accident, reportedly, occurred when a Ford Transit bus, from Kumasi to Dormaa Ahenkro, veered off its lane after developing a tire burst, to crash head on with a Man Diesel tipper truck.
The Abuakwa Divisional Police report, which confirmed the gory crash, disclosed that several other people, especially in the Ford Transit bus, also sustained severe body injuries and have been hospitalised.
Narrating how the accident occurred, the police said, “On 26/02/2025 at 1620hrs, a message was relayed from the Regional Control Room/Ash, that around 1515hrs of the same day, an accident occurred at Mfensi.
“A team of Abuakwa Divisional MTTD personnel rushed to the scene on enquiries. It was gathered at the scene that, suspect driver Asamoah Eric, now deceased, aged about 40, was in charge of the Ford Transit bus with registration number BA 1064-18, with 14 passengers and a 4-year-old boy on board from Kumasi towards Dormaa Ahenkro.
“On reaching a section of the road at the outskirts of Atwima Mfensi township, the nearside rear tyre of the Ford Transit bus got burst. The driver lost control of the steering wheel, veered off his lane to his offside, and collided head on with an oncoming Man Diesel tipper truck with registration number GW 7619-19, driven by suspect driver Bismark Owusu, aged 50.”
The statement further said occupants of the Ford Transit bus sustained various degrees of injuries, and were rushed to Najet Hospital, Atwima Tabere, Akropong Government Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital, Atwima Koforidua for treatment.
“Three (3) males and one (1) female accident victims were certified dead by medical officials of the facilities,” the statement announced, adding that “Bodies deposited at Mount Sinai mortuary, Atwima Tabere for preservation, identification and autopsy.”
The police noted that investigation into the case was still underway, adding that the mangled vehicles have since been removed from the accident scene and impounded at the station for testing.
