4 Robbers Gunned Down At Tatale

The police in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region have gunned down four suspected armed robbers in the area.

Some eight suspected robbers on motorbikes purportedly engaged the police in a gun battle from the Togo end of the border and reportedly robbed a forex bureau of some undisclosed amount of money, mobile phones and valuables.

Four of the robbers were killed at Nonyado, a community in the district, while the other accomplices managed to escape into a nearby bush.

Three residents who joined the police to battle the robbers sustained gunshot wounds leading to their death.

Information gathered indicates that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman for Nonyado, one Papa and Asando, were among the residents who got injured.

The injured residents were rushed to the Yendi Government Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The Tatale market in the eastern corridor shares border with Togo which has a forex bureau that serves as a black market for traders.

The district Customs Commander, Daniel Ofosu, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the robbery happened at 4:30 pm on Sunday.

According to him, the joint operation between the Immigration Service and the police resulted in gunning down four of the suspected robbers.

He indicated that they were suspected to be Fulanis and called on the residents to volunteer information to the police to help apprehend the rest.

Mr Daniel Ofosu disclosed that the deceased robbers’ motorbikes were seized by the police.
