EIGHT SUSPECTED narcotic drug peddlers in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region have been arrested and detained after police carried out swoops at Mpatassie and Adom, all in the municipality.
Those arrested are Hebert Kyere, 22, Arafat Hassan, 20, Clement Agyei, 24, and Kwame Kyere, 24.
The rest are Kwasi Akazeru, 24, Clinton Owusu, 20, Ameyaw Emmanuel, 23, and Alex Kwame, 24.
The swoop, which was carried out last Tuesday between the hours of 6:30 and 11:40 pm, was to flush out criminals terrorising residents in the municipality.
According to the police, the suspects will be screened and those found culpable shall be arraigned before court for prosecution.
“They were smoking the stuff suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) under cocoa trees at Mpatassie and Adom when our men went there and immediately they saw the police they absconded leaving behind six wrapped leaves, two lighters, and a matchbox,” Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kingsley Oppong said.
