The suspects
THREE SUSPECTED armed robbers who robbed 2 Burkinabes of their mobile phones and money on Kintampo Highway yesterday dawn have been arrested by the police.
They are, Alhassan Yakubu, 25, a fisherman, Karim Waliu, 25, a motorbike mechanic and Musa Lafilu, 18 and unemployed. The three suspects have since been transferred to the Brong Ahafo regional police headquarters for further interrogation and prosecution.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE on the robbery, police spokesman for the region, ASP Christopher Tawiah said the three on the dawn of Monday at about 2:30 am spotted two Burkinabes sleeping in their broken down DAF truck at Babatorkuma. The robbers forcefully entered the truck and took away a Samsung mobile phone and GH¢25. After taking away their belongings, they tried to stop an oncoming vehicle but the driver suspected them to be highway robbers so sped off and called a highway patrol police team. The combined team of the police and military acted swiftly and met the three robbers speeding off on an unregistered motorcycle and arrested them. They were sent to the Kintampo Police Station.
At the police station, the victims who also went there to make a report met the suspects there when the police team brought them out and the Burkinabes quickly identified them by their dresses and told the police they were the very people who robbed them in the night. A search on them brought out the Samsung mobile phone and the GH¢ 25. Further search revealed implements such as two sharp knives, one locally manufactured gun, a spanner and a screw driver all hidden in a compartment on the motorbike. According to the police, after arresting them, the leader Alhassan Yakubu attempted to run into the bush but was overpowered.
The two Burkinabe, Praore Amare, the driver and Watare Seidu were travelling from their home country to Tema on the DAF truck with registration number 11JL4642 BF when the vehicle broke down at Babatorkuma. Â They were asleep in the truck when the robbers from Yapei in the Northern Region came and robbed them of the items. The culprits will be processed for court after investigations.
