Nduom Boys Storm Court

PPP supporters on the street

Over two hundred supporters of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) yesterday stormed the new court complex in Accra in solidarity with the disqualified presidential candidate of the party.

The supporters, wearing red arm bands and white party T-shirts, besieged the court premises to support Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who had been disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) from the presidential race on account of wrong filling of his nomination forms.

Carrying placards, some of which read, ‘JM Twaso na Nduom Ntoaso,’ ‘Vote for Nduom for real jobs,’ among others, the party faithful drummed and sang mostly gospel songs, probably for God’s intervention in the case.

The group invaded the street in front of the court, causing heavy traffic on the Atta Mills Highway.

However, the presence of the security personnel confined the PPP sympathizers to the street.

Stern-looking police personnel and a military vehicle were spotted at the court to avert any possible breach of the peace.

PPP has taken the EC to court over the disqualification of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

It is unclear what the presence of the supporters would add to the case, especially as the court has ordered the parties to file their statements of claim by Monday, October 25.
