Ghanaian gospel musician, Joe Mettle, a former member of the popular ‘Soul Winners’ band has won the ‘Overall Best Artiste of the Year’ at the 18th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards festival held over the weekend.

Joe Mettle goes on record as the first musician from the gospel fraternity to have won the ‘Overall Best Artiste of the Year’ award.  He also won two other awards: ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ and ‘Gospel Artiste of the Year.’

Organizers, Charterhouse Productions, define the category of ‘Artiste of the Year’ as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and popularity. The person ought to have released a hit single or album during the year under consideration.

Joe Mettle, officially known as Joseph Oscar Mettle, competed in the ‘Overall Best Artiste of the Year’ category with other music heavyweights including Sarkodie, E.L, Stonebwoy, MzVee and Medikal.

The ceremony was very well organized and patrons had a good thrill.
