KMA Boss Takes Office

Ing Nana Poku Agyeman congratulating Osei Assibey Antwi after the swearing-in ceremony

THE NEW Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, officially resumed work on Thursday after a colourful swearing-in ceremony, which was graced by top government officials, assembly members and other dignitaries.

The Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), venue of the historic programme, was filled with excitement as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, swore in the mayor, who was magnificently dressed for the big occasion.

In his succinct remarks, Mr Osei Assibey stated categorically that he would work assiduously so as to ensure that the garbage problem, which had become an albatross on the neck of Kumasi, is solved once and for all.

He also stated that his administration would help create jobs for the numerous unemployed youth.

The new Kumasi mayor indicated that he could not single-handedly ensure the development of Kumasi and passionately called for the active support of all and sundry “so that together we can develop our great city.”

Mr Osei Assibey, who is widely regarded as very humble and a hard working person, respectfully called for the support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other traditional leaders to expedite Kumasi’s growth.

He also admonished members of the assembly to unite as one people with a common destiny so that together they could transform Kumasi, reminding the assembly members that there is strength in unity.

The historic ceremony was attended by top personalities such as Nana Akwasi Agyeman aka Okumkom, the longest serving KMA boss and Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, Urban Roads Director for Kumasi.

On his part, Mr Osei Mensah urged Osei Assibey not to disappoint President Akufo-Addo who appointed him and the assembly members who also overwhelmingly endorsed him as the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive during a recent poll.

He reminded the KMA boss that Kumasi is facing sanitation, congestion and other problems and so he should always seek wise counsel and support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to surmount the problems.
