ECG MD Wins Award In Kigali

Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing Samuel Boakye-Appiah, has been awarded for being among the top 50 public sector leaders in Africa in the African Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) 2018 held in Kigali, Rwanda.

ECG was also presented with the Outstanding Achievement in Providing Exceptional Distribution and Safe Electricity in Africa Award.

ECG’s award comes on the backdrop of over three years of inadequate generation, which created power rationing and distribution challenges.

APSCA is an initiative geared towards recognizing public institutions, public sector organizations and top public servants, which are constantly innovating and changing their service delivery models in order to attain expected exponential public sector growth in Africa.

The theme for this year’s awards celebration was “Removing Barriers to Growth and Innovation in Public Sector.

Eligible public sector organizations and individuals in Africa were presented with prestigious awards for their achievements.

Ing Samuel Boakye-Appiah, who presented a case study on the theme of the conference, expounded in detail the various challenges ECG has been facing over the last 50 years and also the out-of-the-box strategies and initiatives which had been implemented to address the challenges to promote growth.

He explained the initiatives under 5 thematic areas – Improvement in Revenue Collection and Loss reduction, Improvement in Customer Service Delivery, Robust and Resilient ICT infrastructure and Improvement in System Expansion and Reliability.

He was also part of three-member discussants which highlighted barriers in public sector.

The Managing Director expressed his gratitude to the entire staff of ECG and Ghana as a whole for their support, understanding and good will during the low moments of the company.

He also assured Ghanaians of a proactive and more resilient ECG in the coming years.

Other Ghanaian dignitaries, who also won awards during the ceremony, included the First lady of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba, and the CEO of Public Procurement Authority, Agyenim Boateng Adjei.
