Gasty Yahaya Seidu, the police officer and Kponyo Seth Dodzi, the security man
A policeman stationed at the Akuse Police Station has been arrested together with a private security officer for allegedly robbing a filling station at Okwenya, near Akuse in the Eastern Region.
The policeman, Gasty Yahaya Seidu, 37, and Seth Kpornyo Dodzi, 35, were said to have attacked the filling station along the Akuse-Somanya Road.
Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Asare Nyarko, Commander of the Akuse District Police, explained that the incident occurred on March 26, 2018 when a gang of about eight armed robbers attacked the filling station.
According to him, the suspects broke into the company’s safe at the fuel station and made away with GH¢40,000 and other properties.
Prior to that, the commander claimed the suspects locked up two private security officers manning the station in a washroom after axing one of them who resisted them.
Superintendent Nyarko further stated that the police received information and rushed to the scene but the gangsters bolted.
“The security man who was axed was rushed to the Akuse Government Hospital for medical attention. He sustained various degrees of injury during the robbery, and he is still receiving medical treatment,” the police officer narrated.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE revealed that General Corporal Yahaya Seidu, with Service Number 43255, was arrested at his hideout at Akosombo while the private security officer, who works at Star Oil filling station in Sra, a suburb of Somanya, was also arrested at Somanya for their involvement in the robbery.
They are said to be involved in other robberies which are under investigations.
A search conducted in the room of the cop led to the discovery of one Bruni pistol mod 92, two magazines and three 1.8mm ammunition.
Further search also revealed an axe, a knife, three cans of pepper spray, 10 wrist watches, a pair of handcuffs and bayonet.
Another search conducted in the room of Kpornyo Dodzi at Trom, a suburb of Somanya, revealed 19 BB/AA live cartridges.
Meanwhile, the two suspects are in the custody of the police in Koforidua assisting in investigations.
