The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has for the second consecutive time failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) to steer the affairs of the Assembly.
The three contenders- Eric Kojo Twumasi from the Harbour Electoral Area, Doreen Ayensu Nyarko, a government appointee and Joseph Korto, an Assembly Member for Community 9, failed to secure two-thirds majority vote.
Election of the PM became necessary after Tema West Municipal Assembly was carved out of TMA, making the PM position vacant.
The initial election was held on May 24, 2018 during which Eric Kojo Twumasi polled 11 votes, Doreen Ayensu Nyarko, and Joseph Kortu, recorded 10 votes respectively.
Addressing the members of the assembly, Chief Executive of TMA, Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, said the absence of a PM was retarding activities at the assembly and metropolis in general.
He urged the members to fast-track the election of the PM to enable the assembly conduct its business as mandated by law.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover, cautioned the assembly members not to promote mediocrity.
The Electoral Commission (EC) supervised the elections.
