The Police administration has commended the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, for defusing tension following prophecy made by Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, Head Pastor of Glorious Word and Power Ministries International on New Year’s Eve.

Some Muslim youth went on rampage in Accra, attacking the Glorious Word Power Ministries International Church in the process.

According to Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, who led police management board members to the residence of Sheikh Sharabutu at his New Fadama recently, without the intervention of the revered cleric, the situation could have escalated.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu said measures taken by the Chief Imam to prevent further conflicts fall in line with the mandate of the Ghana Police Service, which is mainly to avert crime, protect lives and property.

“The proactive step you took has given meaning to the saying that security is a shared responsibility.”
Sheikh Sharubutu expressed appreciation to the IGP and his team for maintaining law and order in the country.

He said the “Islamic religion recognizes multi diversity and the complementary role each group plays in ensuring peace in the country.”

He indicated that “Allah has favoured Ghana as a country since people of different faiths have lived in peace, and we should not destroy the grace that God has given Ghana.”

The Chief Imam expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Police to maintain public order and decency in the national discourse.

Present at the meeting were Alhaji Mohammed Gado, chairman of the National Chief Imam’s Advisory Board and other elders at the Office of the Chief Imam.
