Low Representation of Women In Parliament Unfortunate – Justice Short

The commissioners

JUSTICE EMILE Short has described as unfortunate, the low representation of women’s lawmakers in Ghana’s Parliament.

Justice Short made the remark as he congratulated Ghanaian women on the occasion of the 2019 edition of the International Women’s Day.

Speaking to journalists shortly before the commencement of the final hearings into the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shooting incident, Justice Short lamented that it was unfortunate that out of 275 Members of Parliament (MPs) in Ghana, there were 35 women MPs.

He expressed the hope that the Affirmative Action Bill would be pass soon so that Ghana can make some headways in gender equality.

This year’s International Women’s Day celebration is focusing on innovative ways that can propel gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The global theme for this year is ‘Balance For Better’.
International Women’s Day is observed worldwide on March 8 annually to bring to the fore women’s rights and gender equality.
