MTN, MFWA Join Forces To Support Journalists

The Executive Director for Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has indicated that his outfit is ready to partner with MTN Ghana to identify and support journalists who specialize in writing stories that have the potential to solve societal challenges.

Speaking on the concept of development – social, cultural and political dimensions to about 30 select journalists at the MTN House in Accra  during the 2019 edition  of  MTN “Bright Stories Series” over the weekend, he  said the focus of  ‘development journalism’ is to improve the level and quality of life in a sustainable way.

The workshop was held under the theme: “Telling Bright Stories through Development Journalism”.

According to him, the scope  for  ‘development journalists’ is to select from   very wide areas such as agriculture, technology, digital, evolution, health, education, security, vigilantism, social, housing, mining, banking, among others.

Mr. Braimah who was the main facilitator for the “Best Stories Series 2019” reminded the journalists of the need to apply all the tools of journalism.

The Executive Director was quick to state that the joy in development writing is its impact in terms of serving as an advocacy tool for beneficiaries of the area chosen.

Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, opined that MTN Ghana in acknowledging the distinct and critical roles journalism plays in social development instituted a media development programme whose learning experience is known as ‘Bright Story Series’ to offer several training programmes.

The ‘Bright Story Series’ which is organized by the corporate communication team to advance the writing skills and storytelling abilities of professional working journalists seeks also to be a valuable learning partner of practising journalists through its structured learning pathway, using the medium of workshops and seminars, she disclosed.
