Ghana forward Francis Afriyie has set high targets; the topmost being earning a call-up to the Black Stars as soon as practicable.
Consequently, he has challenged himself to hit the back of the net with a little over 20 goals in his first season in the Kenyan top flight league.
A few days ago, the pacy striker signed a year deal with Gor Mahia FC, one of Kenya’s fearsome sides.
And speaking with Happy FM’s Odi Asempa Kwame Oware in an interview, he said, “My manager Dr. Manfred advised that I sign just for a year. I must admit the level of discipline on and off the pitch is something else.”
The former Bechem United striker added, “I have taken my training programme a notch higher, I want to score as many goals as possible, it is possible, the national team is there for players who go the extra mile and I have decided to do exactly that.
“I look up to Luis Suarez as my role model because of his exceptional hunger for goals and seriousness in matches. I am, indeed, ready for Black Stars’ next invitation because I am investing in training.”
Afriyie, who has been handed the 19 shirt, said after his unveiling, “I’m very happy to be unveiled. I have played for several clubs both in Ghana and abroad but I have never seen this kind of unveiling before.”
Gor Mahia will begin their CAF Champions League campaign with the Black Eagles from Burundi in the preliminary round.
