The winners displaying their silverware
It was total embarrassment as Barclays Bank customers whitewashed the Barclays Bank staff in a special tennis competition at the 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club in Kumasi.
Isaac Owusu, an astute tennis player, representing the Barclays Bank customers, displayed power and sublime skills to beat Lawrence Atatuba, Barclays Bank Cluster manager, 6-0 in a one-way match.
Owusu, who was the bookmaker’s huge favourite, lived up to expectation, as he applied early pressure with powerful shots, which got his hapless opponent panting for breadth to the end.
The special match was the curtain raiser for the second edition of the Barclays Bank sponsored tennis competition which saw Mess Tennis locking horns with the KNUST Tennis Club.
Using home support to their advantage, Mess Tennis carried the day with a 7-5 total score win. The singles match tied at 4-4 and Mess Tennis massacred KNUST 3-1 in the doubles competition, to emerge winners.
At the end of the game, Mess Tennis who paraded crack tennis stars such as Robert Tetteh, Samuel Aidoo, Joshua Mensah, Nana Atakorah, Nii Kwei and others, were seen in jubilant mood on the court.
Evelyn Acquah, Head of Affluent Segment, Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, disclosed that Barclays wants its customers to live healthy, hence organising the tennis competition, assuring that the event wound be bigger next year.
Samuel Ampadu-Kyei, chairman of 4 Garrison Officers Mess Tennis Club, lauded Barclays Bank and Isaac Owusu for their efforts in making the event possible.
