A.R. Gomda being assisted to cut the tape by Dr Donkor to formally hand over the facility to the hospital authorities
THE TEMA Lube Oil Company Limited (TLOC), a lubricants manufacturing company, has presented a fully furnished modern dental unit to the Manhean Polyclinic at Tema, Greater Accra Region.
The GH¢200,000 state-of-the-art facility, the third of its kind in the country is fitted with an air compressor, x-ray machine, monitors, sagging machines, dental chair and accompanied by a large quantity of consumables and other accessories.
Handing over the facility to the Polyclinic, a member of the Board of Directors of TLOC, Alhaji A. R Gomda, who spoke on behalf of Ing. Kow Abaka Quansah, Board Chairman of the company said “… the Polyclinic is unable to provide Dental Services due to lack of structure and equipment. All dental related cases are therefore referred to healthcare facilities elsewhere for management. This is obviously a big gap in the Polyclinic’s service delivery and also affects patients who have to go through lots of hustle and bustle to access care at the referred facilities.”
The TLOC undertook civil works and modification of two rooms, a waiting area and walkway of the Polyclinic to get a fully furnished and air-conditioned Doctor’s Consulting Room, Treatment Room, Nurse’s Office and an Out Patients Department.
All the donated items had duly been authenticated by the Regional Clinical Engineering Unit of the Ministry of Health as good and fit for the purpose, A.R. Gomda said.
On his part, the Managing Director (MD) of TLOC, Mr. Amos Donkoh, mentioned health, education and security as the thematic areas of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the community.
“We have made several CSR in the past including an ambulance to the Tema Polyclinic with repair and insurance borne by the company for three years, Ventilator for the Tema General Hospital, surgical equipment for the ENT Department of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, another ambulance for Tema General Hospital, books, furniture, computers and water dispensing machines for the Tema Library, a fully furnished Police Post near Tema Timber Market for the Tema Regional police Command, among others,” he stated,
He appealed to other corporate institutions to support public institutions to achieve their objectives.
According to him, “although you don’t see our products directly, fuel filling stations like Shell, Total, GOIL, etc. blend their lubricants from our end, so we encourage you to buy from these filling stations. As you buy from them, you are giving us money to assist the community more.’’
Appreciating the gesture, the Director of the Polyclinic, Dr. Joseph Kojo Donkor, said “I’ve had instances when people die on the way when they have been referred to the Tema General Hospital because of complications that arise from oral care issues. Therefore, we’ll put the facility into good use.”
He however, mentioned other health challenges of the Polyclinic that need urgent attention, saying that “Currently, the facility needs a surgical theatre, an ambulance, as well as re-roofing of the OPD Block to stop leakages when it rained.”
The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Annan-La, was full of praise for the TLOC for saving dental patients from the inconveniences of traveling long distances to seek dental care outside the Polyclinic’s jurisdiction.
