Rex Omar
Veteran musician Rex Omar has advised Ghanaians to rise above politics and rally behind President Akufo-Addo and his government to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
According to him, this is not the time to play politics with the virus which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Ghana has so far recorded six cases of the virus. The first two cases were announced on March 12 while four more cases were announced on Sunday.
President Akufo-Addo, in an address on Sunday evening, ordered the closure of all schools and universities in the country as part of measures stop the virus from spreading.
He also ordered the suspension of public gathering, including funeral, church events, football activities and others for the next four weeks.
After the declaration on Sunday, some persons tried to make political gains out of it.
But Rex Omar, who was speaking on Hitz FM on Monday morning, congratulated President Akufo-Addo and the government on the new directions.
He cautioned political parties to desist from politicizing issues surrounding the virus.
“When the President was addressing the public, I could see the burden on his face. Let’s rally behind President Akufo-Addo to fight coronavirus. When we are done, we can come back to our NPP-NDC stuff. That is all I want to say,” Rex Omar indicated.
