Politics can be interesting and thrilling when its actors take the people for granted and make sweeping remarks with the hope of making electoral gains.
A couple of days ago an NDC MP was on television ‘lamenting’ about how a teenager died because there was no ambulance to convey him to hospital.
It is sad when death is occasioned by the absence of appropriate facilities or drugs. While we sympathise with the deceased family and regret the occurrence, we would be quick to add that the incumbent administration has done exceedingly better than its predecessor in terms of improving health delivery system in the country.
The Ghana Ambulance Service was rescued from the verge of collapse with the importation of real ambulances, equipment et al fitted from the assembly line.
We recall effortlessly how so-called ambulances imported by the NDC government docked without the necessary facilities. These were cargo vans which required refitting to make them come close to ambulance standards.
Such hypocrisy should be stopped forthwith because they debase the noble occupation of politics.
When politics is reduced to this level of lies and mind-games by bad politicians, we can justifiably condemn such pastime as irresponsible and insulting to the citizenry.
Why would such politicians think that we as citizens of this country have so soon forgotten about the state of this country when they were exiting the helm?
The healthcare delivery system was on the verge of collapse, the National Health Insurance Scheme nowhere near functioning as effectively as it was when it was inaugurated.
It appeared it was deliberately ignored in the scheme of things, the NDC’s lies about a so-called one term premium impossible to execute.
Today, an NDC member attempts whipping ill-sentiments against the government over what in his opinion is a malfunctioning health system.
Let them not think the citizens of this country are not observing the changes which have happened since their party, bankrupt of innovations exited the helm.
The healthcare system is by all standards in a better shape than it was when cargo vans were imported in the name of ambulances.
If they have not been queried for mismanaging this country let them not push their luck.
A little over four years since the incumbent government took up the reins is not too long as to allow for amnesia to cloud the thoughts of the people.
President Akufo-Addo stands out as one of the outstanding leaders on the continent or globally whose innovative healthcare system enabled him to manage the COVID-19 pandemic to the admiration of the watchers of the subject internationally.
That we are where we are today in terms of the management of the pandemic is by the courtesy of a wonderful healthcare delivery system in place.
Let them either shower plaudits on the government for a better management of the healthcare system, of which the ambulance service is a part or simply shut up.
