The Weija District Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old mechanic who is suspected to have shot and killed a driver at Obakrowa, near Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality.
Joshua Quashie is alleged to have shot and killed Nii Armah Tagoe, a 29-year-old driver without any provocation in February this year.
After escaping arrest for the past five months, police finally arrested suspect in his house at Obakrowa yesterday morning.
Briefing the media, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Efia Tenge said the deceased was a driver residing at Ayikai Dobro while suspect Joshua Quashie is a mechanic residing at Obakrowa.
She said on February 5, 2021, Nii Armah’s motorbike was seized by some youth, including the suspect, at a land site in Obakrowa.
“Two days later, one of them, called Kudus called Nii Armah on phone to meet them at a land site for his motorbike,” DSP Tenge disclosed.
DSP Tenge said Nii Armah, fearing being harmed by the men who seized his motorbike, asked some of his friends to accompany him to the said location.
“Upon arrival, however, an argument ensued between the deceased and the men who allegedly seized his motorbike, but suspect Quarshie at that moment had distanced himself and did not partake in the said argument.
She said, suddenly, Quarshie, armed with a single barrel shot gun, got up and pursued Nii Armah, and shot him in his right chest, killing him on the spot.
DSP Tenge maintained that after firing at the victim, Quarshie went into hiding and was not seen after five months.
She said suspect suddenly appeared in the village and was grabbed through police intelligence and would be processed for court soon.
