Chris Hughton Faces Angola Test Today

Newly-appointed Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, faces a litmus test as his side faces the Palancas Negras of Angola in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Kumasi today.

The coach appeared combat ready for the task at his unveiling on Monday, and if that is anything to go by then the Group E joint leaders stand a good chance to at least consolidate their lead with a win.

Indeed, a win will make the reverse fixture in few days less daunting, and again plant their foot firmly for qualification.

“Winning football matches that will get you into a better position will be one of my priorities,” said Houghton.

Ghana now has a full house, with the arrival of all the foreign players, and the good news is, there are no injury concerns in camp.

In like manner, the Angolans, who have proven to be tough customers to their Ghanaian counterparts, over the years, did appear ready for the Kumasi clash; raising the stakes in today’s game.

The Angolan coach Pedro Concalves said, “We know the difficulties we are going to encounter, but we are ready to play a good game in Kumasi.”

“It is obvious that Ghana has changed coaches but I believe there won’t be much change from their performance at the World Cup.”
