Lepers Sing Bawumia Praise

Lepers of the Weija Leprosarium near Accra expressed their gratitude to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for spearheading their enrollment onto the National Identification Card, the Ghana Card.

The lepers showed their gratitude by composing a song to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Vice President for making it possible for them to acquire the identity card which they said has given them a sense of identity and belonging.

Dr Bawumia is known for supporting lepers in Ghana and also their chief patron.

He has been instrumental in ensuring their sustainability, and this initiative is just one of the many ways he has shown his interest in the welfare of the lepers.

Prior to the rollout of the Ghana Card, the lepers faced significant challenges due to the absence of proper identification documents. They were barred from accessing essential services and benefits due to a lack of proper identification. Now, with the inclusion of lepers in the Ghana Card programme, they feel like valued members of the society and can enjoy the rights and benefits every citizen in Ghana is entitled to.

Dr Bawumia, in his statement, congratulated the lepers of Weija Leprosarium and thanked the Executive Secretary and staff of National Identification Authority for making the registration possible.

He also stated that other leprosaria across the country will also be included, ensuring that every leper in Ghana has a Ghana Card. This initiative by Dr Bawumia has given a new hope for lepers and has ensured their inclusion in society.
