The management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has denied media reports that it overspent its budget by GH¢1 million.

The Metro Finance Officer, David Adjei Abaam, who issued the denial, said the claims were based on a letter written to management by the Auditor General which issues management had satisfactorily addressed.

According to the statement, the management letters contained issues the auditors raised during their audit of which answers should be provided by management of KMA within 30 days by law.

“This is the usual practice with any audit,” Mr. Abaam explained and emphasized, “KMA has already responded to the issues with the appropriate evidence to the auditors.”

“The Auditor General is yet to issue or release his final report on the issues raised in the Management letter and the KMA responses to them,” the statement noted.

It also stated that until the Auditor General releases a final report, on the matter, KMA and its management cannot be held accountable for the issues identified in the management letter.

The statement continued that until the Auditor General’s final report is produced, it cannot be said that the KMA has taken any responsibility or misappropriated any funds, as depicted in the media narrative.
