Five Injured In Ring Road Accident

Five people sustained various degrees of injuries in a road accident at Ring Road, opposite the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in Accra last Wednesday.

The accident victims include two men, two women and a baby girl.

The cars involved in the accident include a Kia Rhino, Kia Picanto and a Toyota Corolla.

Of the five injured victims, the woman from the Corolla was in critical condition. However, the man, according to eyewitness reports, was able to jump out of the car and sustained only minor injuries. The passengers in the Picanto – a woman, a man, and a little girl, were also rescued with minor injuries.

According to Samuel White, an eyewitness   at the scene, the Kia Rhino, which is a company truck with the name Samex MD Ltd Block Factory, was loaded with building materials (blocks) and approaching from the upper part of the interchange at top speed.

“We noticed this truck with blocks approaching from the upper part of the interchange at top speed,” he disclosed.

He stated that the speeding truck collided into the vehicles since there was traffic congestion on the road.

He said, “It wasn’t getting a very good positioning. And because there was already a traffic situation here, no vehicles were moving.”

He further explained that the collision affected several vehicles since there was traffic congestion, with some of the victims being trapped in their vehicles.

Mr. White disclosed that, as eyewitness and a road safety advocate, he quickly called the Ambulance Service, Fire Service and the Police Service to the scene, noting a swift response from the aforementioned state agencies to come to the aid of the victims.

“I was able to get them, being lucky to be part of the first people that saw this. And the first thing I did was I called the Ambulance, I called the fire department and I called the Nima Police Command,” he added.
