Joseph Badu Boateng, popularly known as Dada Joe Remix, has been extradited from Ghana to the United States (US) to face serious charges related to alleged multi-million dollar fraud operation involving romance and inheritance scams.
The extradition was facilitated by a collaborative effort between US and Ghanaian security authorities, including the Diplomatic Security Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In a joint statement from the US Embassy and the Diplomatic Security Service, it was confirmed that special agents at the US Embassy in Ghana played a crucial role in assisting the FBI with the extradition process.
According to the statement, “Diplomatic Security Service special agents at US Embassy, Ghana worked with Ghanaian authorities to assist the FBI in the extradition of Joseph Badu Boateng aka Dada Joe Remix. Boateng was indicted on charges of running a fraud ring that used romance and inheritance schemes to defraud US victims of several million dollars. The subject is now in the United States to face justice.”
This extradition is part of a broader federal initiative aimed at dismantling international fraud networks that specifically target senior citizens. The US Department of Justice emphasised its commitment to protecting vulnerable older Americans, coinciding the announcement with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Dada Joe Remix was arrested in Ghana on May 28, 2025, following a US extradition request. He faces charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a decade-long transnational fraud scheme. On May 30, 2025, he was indicted in the District of Arizona on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
Court records from the US Attorney’s Office reveal that Boateng and his associates allegedly orchestrated a romance and inheritance scam between 2013 and 2023, deceiving elderly victims into believing they were entitled to valuable gold and jewelry. Victims were misled into thinking these items could only be released after paying non-existent taxes and fees.
As Boateng prepares to face trial in the United States, FBI authorities have pledged to continue their efforts to combat fraud schemes that exploit some of the most vulnerable members of society.
