461,640 Candidates Sit For WASSCE

Four hundred and sixty-one thousand, six hundred and forty (461,640) candidates, comprising 207,381 males and 254,259 females fromĀ  various senior high and technical schools Ā Ā yesterday started the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) across the country.

According to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the number shows an increase of 1,029 candidates compared to 460,611 candidates who wrote the exams last year.

The exams, which is in two phases, started on Monday, August 4 with the practical papers while the theories also started yesterday at various centres.

This marks the fourth year the exams was run under the Ghanaian version on the examination calendar.

Ghana over the years wrote the exams together with countries including Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia, until Ghana opted to use its academic calendar following the COVID-pandemic.

The students are expected to write an average of eight subjects, having already written some practical papers and project work in 701 centres across the country.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak, has cautioned candidates to desist from engaging in any form of examination malpractice, and also asked teachers to equally follow all the rules pertaining to the exams.
