Bawumia Remains Overwhelming Choice – Oware

Fred Oware

Senior Advisor to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Fred Oware, has expressed confidence that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remains the overwhelming choice of the party’s grassroots.

Mr. Oware said that if the NPP’s flagbearer election were to be conducted today, Dr. Bawumia would secure a resounding victory owing to his popularity and the trust he enjoys among delegates.

Speaking in an interview on Pure FM on Wednesday, August 27, Mr. Oware said the former Vice President’s strong support base has only grown stronger since the primaries.

“From the support we continue to see across the country, there is no doubt that if the election were held today, Dr. Bawumia would win massively.

“His message continues to resonate, and our delegates know the future of the NPP is safe with him,” he stated.

He emphasised that Dr. Bawumia’s track record, particularly his leadership in economic management and digital transformation during his tenure as Vice President, has endeared him to the rank and file of the party.

“The delegates and the ordinary Ghanaian can testify to the work he has done. That is why his support base has only grown stronger since the primaries,” Mr. Oware added.

Mr. Oware urged party members to remain united behind Dr. Bawumia as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election, noting that internal cohesion will be key to securing victory.

“This is the time for us to rally behind our candidate. Unity is our strength, and with Dr. Bawumia at the helm, the NPP is poised for success,” he said.

He dismissed claims by fellow aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, that he financed delegates in the Eastern Region on Dr. Bawumia’s behalf.

According to Mr. Oware, such allegations are unfounded and seek to undermine the credibility of the former Vice President’s victory in the party’s presidential primaries.

Mr. Oware said Dr. Acheampong’s claims should be treated with contempt. “It is simply not true that Bryan Acheampong paid delegates from the Eastern Region for Dr. Bawumia.

“His victory was built on his message, his track record, and the confidence that party members have in his leadership,” he stressed.

Mr. Oware further noted that the NPP’s internal election was free and fair, and the suggestion that money exchanged hands in favour of Dr. Bawumia disrespects the integrity of the delegates who voted.

“Our delegates are discerning; they made their choice based on conviction, not because someone lined their pockets. To suggest otherwise is to insult the entire electoral process of the party,” he argued.

He urged party members to remain united and to focus on the task of winning the 2028 general election rather than entertaining divisive claims.
