Mahama Sacks Torkornoo As Chief Justice

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo

President John Dramani Mahama has removed Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office with immediate effect.

This follows the receipt of the report of a five-member committee that probed a petition filed against her by Ghanaian, Daniel Ofori.

A statement from the Presidency said “After considering the petition and the evidence, the Committee found that the grounds of stated misbehaviour under Article 146(1) had been established and recommended her removal from office.”

It added that “Under Article 146(9), the President is required to act in accordance with the committee’s recommendation.”
