FIVE SERVING officers of the Ghana Police Service have been interdicted and referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation and necessary disciplinary action for misusing their uniforms on social media.
The five interdicted police officers, with ranks ranging from sergeant to constable, comprise four males and one female. They include G/Sgt. Samuel Agbemanyale, G/Cpl. Isaac Mpere, G/Cpl. Samuel Agbo, G/Cpl. Charles Oduro, and PW/Const. Elizabeth Dicka Korkor.
Misconduct on social media by some police officers has received criticism in recent times, causing damage to Ghana Police Service reputation and undermining their efforts to serve the country.
A statement signed by Director-General of Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, indicated that these officers were involved in various acts of misconducts, hence their interdiction.
This move highlights the Inspector General of Police’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring officers’ conduct does not compromise the Ghana Police Service’s integrity and public image.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, made a pledge after his official swearing-in ceremony that he is committed to maintaining discipline and ensuring that the conduct of officers, even on personal social media platforms, does not compromise the integrity and public image of the Ghana Police Service.
In his acceptance speech, the IGP emphasised his dedication to fostering a police service that is grounded in professionalism, transparency, accountability, and fairness.
“In alignment with the transformation and modernisation of the service, I pledge to uphold the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service.
“In this regard, the guiding principles will include discipline and respect for seniority. I assure you, the President, that professionalism, transparency, accountability and fairness shall underpin my administration and focus on renewing attitudes and performance,” he said.
