GHANAIAN YOUTUBE personality and content creator, Bernard Kwadwo Amoafo, popularly known as Kwadwo Sheldon, has challenged the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, that if he succeeds in extraditing Russian tourist Vyacheslav Trahov to Ghana, he will switch to support the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next election.
He made this statement after Sam George pledged to extradite Vyacheslav Trahov, a Russian national accused of secretly filming Ghanaian women without their consent.
Sam George, announced that he has invited the Russian Ambassador to Ghana to discuss the matter, and is working with INTERPOL to secure Trahov’s extradition.
Speaking on his show, Kwadwo Sheldon stated that the minister is being ambitious with his demand to extradite Vyacheslav Trahov.
“If they are able to extradite that Russian guy to Ghana to face the full rigours of the law, I will switch from New Patriotic Party (NPP) to National Democratic Congress, (NDC), and I’m betting my life on this one, if they are able to extradite him from Russia to this country.
“Because what he did was a criminal thing. I will switch my party from NPP to NDC and vote for them in 2028. It is basically a domestic crime.
“Let me reiterate it. If they are able to bring this guy to this country to face the full rigours of the law, I am going to switch my political party, which is the NPP, to the NDC, and I will vote for any candidates they present,” he said.
Kwadwo Sheldon has expressed doubt of Sam George’s ability to extradite Vyacheslav Trahov, because Russia’s constitution doesn’t allow extradition of its citizens.
Article 61(1) of Russia’s Constitution states that a Russian citizen can’t be deported or extradited to another country. This means Russia is unlikely to extradite Trahov, unless it’s an extreme case like involvement in terrorism or overthrow of government.
Additionally, Ghana doesn’t have a bilateral extradition treaty with Russia, making the process uncertain. Extradition requests without such agreements rely on diplomatic negotiations, which can be challenging.
