Shaibu Haruna
The Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Limited, Shaibu Haruna, has urged customers to report mobile money agents who charge fees for deposits into personal wallets, warning that the practice violates the company’s policy.
He noted that deposits into mobile money accounts are free, but the company continues to receive complaints about some agents disregarding this directive, which raises concerns about compliance within the system.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM yesterday, Mr. Haruna acknowledged the persistence of the practice and stressed the importance of customer vigilance in tackling it.
“We are aware of this behaviour, but we encourage customers to report such incidents to us so we can take action. We have field sales agents who are responsible for handling these issues,” he said.
He assured users that the company has established mechanisms to investigate complaints and sanction offending agents, as part of broader efforts to protect customers and maintain trust in the mobile money ecosystem.
Mr. Haruna also disclosed that the company is stepping up its fight against fraud through the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence-powered monitoring systems.
According to him, the technology is being used to track suspicious transactions and detect patterns linked to fraudulent activities.
He explained that once a complaint is lodged, the system can trace transaction flows and identify agents frequently associated with irregular behaviour, enabling swift intervention.
The CEO said the integration of artificial intelligence marks a shift from traditional rule-based monitoring to more sophisticated, behaviour-driven analysis, which improves the company’s ability to isolate and address fraud.
“Thanks to the power of artificial intelligence, we are strengthening our monitoring mechanisms, making it easier to identify and deal with fraudulent elements,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sanitising the mobile money space, assuring customers that decisive action will continue to be taken against fraudsters and non-compliant agents.
