ECG management with some of the traditional council members
Management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has engaged the Aowin Traditional Council and Mpohor Traditional Council over intermittent power outages affecting the two areas.
The engagement follows a recent announcement by ECG that it had initiated measures to address the recurring power supply challenges in the affected communities.
The ECG management team was led by Ing. David Asamoah.
He disclosed that, in the case of Mpohor, the company is undertaking a project to upgrade an 11kV line to 33kV, which is about 70 percent complete and expected to improve the voltage profile in the area.
Ing. Asamoah further indicated that ECG is procuring about 18 distribution transformers for Mpohor to help mitigate the low-voltage challenge.
He noted that, as an interim measure, ECG would construct a four-kilometre alternative 33kV line from Ayiem to Memunakrom to connect the 33kV Manso and Agona feeders in order to improve fault management and supply reliability.
The Omanhene of the Mpohor Traditional Council, Osaberima Kwaw Entsie II, and the Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Godfred Bentil, expressed appreciation to ECG for its dedication and commitment towards improving the power situation.
The ECG management team also met with the leadership of the Aowin Traditional Council to outline measures being implemented to resolve power challenges in the area.
The General Manager, Ing. Emmanuel J. Ofori, explained that the region had deployed a team to patrol transmission lines, identify faults and correct defects that result in outages.
He added that a contractor had also been engaged to clear overgrown vegetation along the lines, which often disrupts power supply.
Ing. Ofori further disclosed that management had commenced the construction of a 33kV Dadieso-Enchi link to ensure a more stable and reliable electricity supply from the Juaboso Bulk Supply Point.
The Member of Parliament for Aowin Constituency, Oscar Ofori Larbi, stressed that stable electricity supply was crucial for businesses to thrive and urged ECG to expedite work on the project to improve livelihoods in the area.
The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, pledged his support to ECG and contractors undertaking vegetation control activities in the affected communities.
