CAGED! Kofi Nti
A 26-year-old driver, Kofi Nti, alias Agoogo, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Bekwai Circuit Court for stealing five sound amplifiers and a can of emulsion paint valued at GH¢3,300.
Nti, a resident of Adagya in the Ashanti Region, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
His Honour Isaac Apietu, presiding over the Bekwai Circuit Court, convicted and sentenced him after he admitted the offences.
Detective Inspector Eric Okyere prosecuted the case.
The court heard that Nti and the complainant, Sarkodie Eric, were neighbours at Adagya.
According to the prosecution, on August 14, 2026, at about 1:00 a.m., Nti left his home with the intention of scouting for a house to steal from.
He allegedly arrived at the complainant’s residence around 1:10 a.m. and noticed that the exit door had not been locked.
The accused reportedly opened the door and entered the veranda without permission before stealing five sound amplifiers valued at GH¢2,800 and a can of Top Coat emulsion paint valued at GH¢500.
He allegedly carried the items to his residence and hid them.
The complainant woke up around 7:30 a.m. and discovered that his items were missing. He subsequently informed his neighbours.
The following day, the accused allegedly sold four of the stolen amplifiers to a scrap dealer, Rashid Abdul Rahim, for GH¢140.
The complainant later received information that his amplifiers were in the possession of the scrap dealer and went to identify them.
The accused was subsequently arrested on August 17, 2026, after police searched his room and found him hiding under a mattress.
The prosecution told the court that Nti attempted to escape and struggled with police officers but was overpowered.
He later led the police to retrieve another amplifier he had hidden on the ceiling and the can of emulsion paint concealed in a room.
The accused also took the police to the complainant’s residence and demonstrated how he allegedly entered the premises.
The court further heard that Nti admitted the offences in his caution statement, explaining that he stole and sold the items because he needed money to pay the medical bills of his pregnant wife.
The scrap dealer, who was initially detained to assist with investigations, was later discharged.
Nti was subsequently charged with unlawful entry and stealing, and put before the Bekwai Circuit Court.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by His Honour Isaac Apietu.
