Blood stains at the back of the victim
A 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Hayford, has allegedly been subjected to severe beating by a group of men armed with cutlasses, sticks and other weapons at Mfante-Asikam-Ashiaman in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The victim, a resident of Subriso, claims he was assaulted after a substance he and his brother, Ishmael, sent to a local gold-refining center at Asikam turned out to be fake gold.
According to Ibrahim, he and his brother believed the substance was gold and therefore took it to the centre to have it processed.
He said upon discovering that the substance was fake, the workers at the site allegedly turned on him and accused him of being an armed robber.
Ibrahim claimed that while his brother managed to escape from the scene, the workers pounced on him, covered his head with a sack and subjected him to severe beatings.
He alleged that the owner of the refining machine, identified only as Coach, hit him on the head with a big stick before allegedly pulling a gun and threatening to kill him.
Ibrahim, who is demanding justice, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the Tepa Police Command to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
He disclosed that the matter had already been reported to the Tepa Police Command but expressed concern that no arrest had been made and there had been no follow-up.
Ibrahim is therefore calling for a thorough investigation into the incident, insisting that the alleged assault and threats against his life should not be swept under the carpet.
