More than 400 coaches have applied for the vacant Black Stars head coach position, former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara has revealed.
Ghana is seeking a new manager after Carlos Queiroz left following consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.
A five-member committee formed by the GFA in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation is expected to recommend Queiroz’s successor on Thursday.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Sannie Daara, now a senior media officer at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said the high number of applications reflected Ghana’s status in international football.
“More than 400 coaches have applied for the Black Stars job,” he said.
The GFA has also announced plans for an interim technical team to oversee Ghana’s next two qualifiers against Somalia in November.
The Black Stars will host Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium as they attempt to revive their campaign.
Ghana sit bottom of Group C without a point after two matches. The four-time African champions are also seeking to return to the AFCON after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, their first absence since 2004.
