A Leader Is Constantly Aware Of His Purpose

The Art of Leadership By Dag Heward-Mills

Sometimes you encounter a leader who is constantly distracted by many other things other than his purpose? Do you think such a leader will be a success? Jesus knew why he was in this world. Even in times of great stress, He explained his life’s purpose. A leader is someone who is constantly aware of his purpose. When you are aware of what you are supposed to do, you are guided aright into spending your time appropriately. I am constantly aware of what God has called me to do. Every day of my life is spent trying to fulfil the calling of God on my life.

Jesus Was Constantly Aware of His Purpose

  1. Jesus Christ stated His purpose to His parents. He was clearly aware of His purpose and stated it to His parents.

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

And he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

Luke 2:48-49

  1. Jesus Christ stated His purpose to other religious people like Nicodemus.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:16, 17

  1. Jesus Christ stated His purpose to His disciples.

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Matthew 16:21

  1. Jesus Christ stated His purpose to unbelievers like Zacchaeus.

And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, for somuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Luke 19:8-10

  1. Jesus Christ stated His purpose to enemies like Pilate.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

John 18:37

How Paul Reminded Himself of His Purpose

  1. Paul reminded Timothy of his purpose in life.

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

1 Timothy 1:16

  1. Paul reminded others of their purpose and ministry.

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee

Titus 1:5

  1. Paul reminded the Corinthians of his vision and purpose of being an apostle.

Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

1 Corinthians 1:1-2

  1. Paul reminded the Ephesians of his vision and purpose of being an apostle.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 1:1

  1. Paul reminded the Colossians of his vision and purpose of being an apostle.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1:1-2

Dear leader, what is your life’s purpose? Above are the examples of Jesus and Paul. Paul even went beyond knowing His purpose to reminding others of their purpose on earth. Are you a businessman trying to make money? Then why does your business run like a charity? Why do you not cut your expenses and begin to make profits? Indeed, a leader needs to constantly remember his vision and purpose. That is the only way he will maintain his vision and accomplish it!
