Amenfi Craves For Western North Region

The youth in the three Amenfi Districts of the Western Region have pressed their desire to be included in the yet-to-be created Western North Region.

The three districts include Amenfi East, Amenfi West and Amenfi Central.

They have therefore petitioned President Akufo-Addo of their readiness to be part of the Western North Region when the entire Western Region is finally divided into two.

A copy of their petition was also sent to the office of the Minister for Regional Integration, the Western Regional Minister and the Omanhene of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Council at Wassa Akropong.

Scores of the youth have staged a peaceful demonstration at Asankragwa to put their case across.

Clad in red attires and holding placards, the disgruntled youth argued that traditionally, socially, historically and culturally, the Sefwis, Aowins and the Amenfis have lots in common.

“We have these things in common through inter-marriages, schooling and good neighbourliness and therefore the Amenfi Districts must be part of the Western North Region”, they asserted.

They also argued that it would be less expensive travelling to the regional capital of the new region no matter where it would be sited than travelling to the current regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi.

The people maintained that the new region obviously would come with opportunities for development which the Amenfi Districts would be in a better position to benefit immensely.
