Assembly members of the Ayawaso Central Municipality Assembly have overwhelmingly confirmed the President’s nominee, Archibald Cobbina for the area as the Municipal Chief Executive.
Sixteen out of the 17 Assembly members that turned up to vote at the Ayawaso Central Municipal Directorate at Kotobabi, in Accra unanimously confirmed Archibald Cobbina.
His nomination comes on the backdrop of the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Quaye who resigned as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), since 2016 for the area on health grounds.
An excited Cobbina in his acceptance speech assured constituents and assembly members of his readiness to address the concerns of residents having worked in various capacities at the Assembly including serving as two-time Assembly member for Kokomlemle electoral area.
The Greater Accra regional Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey, eulogized the former MCE describing him as one of the stalwarts of the party who had worked for the party since 1969.
The Minister, who expressed his admiration for the former MCE said it was unusual for people occupying highly prestigious positions to resign in the event of any challenge they may be facing
That, he said has won the heart of many including him, saying “on this day, I have a lot of respect, admiration and love for him”.
He also said the confirmed MCE, Archibald Cobbina was capable of continuing and adding to the footprints of the former MCE following his contribution to the NPP at the constituency for decades and therefore has to be supported by all the assembly members and the constituents to achieve his vision.
For his part, the former MCE, Alhaji Mohammed Quaye prayed for the current MCE and asked him not to hesitate to seek for guidance from his predecessors whenever he faces any challenge while serving the municipality.
