Bawumia Denies Posters

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has denied being behind posters projecting his bid to succeed President Akufo-Addo after 2024.

It follows the splashing of his “campaign” posters in some parts of the country by unknown persons.

In a statement issued in Accra yesterday, Spokesperson for the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako, said “the Office of the Vice President has taken notice of the proliferation of posters around the country apparently promoting Dr. Bawumia as the candidate of the NPP for the 2024 Elections.”

The statement said, “For the record, the Vice President has not given his consent to these and other associated activities.”

Instead, the statement noted that “the Vice President remains focused on assisting the President in the execution of his agenda to transform Ghana,” adding that “this is where everybody’s focus should be.”

Some believe the posters, some of which have the inscription “Break the 8” which translates as Bawumia having the ability to break the usual eight-year cycle of two terms often given to ruling parties, are being circulated by Dr. Bawumia’s detractors to create needless disaffection for him.

He has, however, declared his unflinching support for President Akufo-Addo and their second term which mandate has just begun to deliver on their promises to Ghanaians.

Dr. Bawumia’s office said for now “that is his focus and his main preoccupation and nothing else.”
