‘Be Curious About Your Health Status’

Tipper Truck Drivers undergoing screening exercise

LABORATORY DIRECTOR at Patholab Solution Medical Laboratory Ghana Limited, Elizabeth-Irene Baitie has urged the public to cultivate the habit of learning and understanding their physical and mental well-being for early detection and prevention of diseases.

According to her, being curious about one’s health helps detect potential health issues early, allowing for timely intervention and preventing complications. This also influences individual lifestyles, treatment options, and healthcare choices.

She made this known at the Patholab free health screening event for some 200 Tipper truck drivers and residents in Kwabenya, Accra. The exercise catered for screening of non-communicablediseases such as fasting blood sugar, malaria, and blood pressure.

“As part of effort in helping people especially those within the informal sector to be curious of their health status we engage them in health talk as part of our Cooperate Social Responsibility to be more concerned about their health,” she said.

“Most of our engagement with these people have revealed that they don’t prioritise their health care which is not a good sign,” she noted.

Mrs. Baitie added that knowing one’s health status “allows you to understand your genetic or inherited health traits. Taking an active interest in your health status can lead to improved overall health and well-being, enhancing your quality of life.”

Shepledged the company’s commitment to advancing its advocacy for health programmes and screening to enhance public health.

Chairman of the Kwabenya Tipper Truck Union, Ayitey Joshua pledged the union’s commitment to engage health institutions for periodic screening of its members.

“Health is very important, especially taking into consideration the type of work we do. I will agree that the union has not done much in the area of periodic health screening exercises. From here we will engage a health institution for scheduled health screening exercises for our members,” he assured.
